I have a 84 E-350 cube van with an early 70's 460 engine and auto trans. Having all kinds of problems with the Holley double pumper carb. I have a new 600 man. choke Edelbrock but am not sure about jet and rod sizes for the edelbrock on the 460.
Anyone tried this combination succesfully ?
This truck will is driven mostly long distance trips.
ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED ! !
Bolt it on and enjoy. They very seldom need much adjustment.
Drive if for a week or so. Pull a couple of spark plugs and see how they look. If black then put larger number metering rods in it.
If you don’t have the Edelbrock owner’s manual it is on their web site. It covers how to adjust the fuel mixture at idle, cruising, and under heavy load – ie power mode.
While changing just the metering rods will move the air/fuel mixture the manual has a chart – specific to each carb - that details the jets and metering rods needed to increase or decrease the mixture by percentages. Without the chart you are somewhat shooting in the dark and Edelbrock has already done all the work.
I have tweaked my Edelbrock over several months using the steps in the manual and it has allowed me to really dial-in the carb.
I have heard that the edelbrock is easier to tune than the holleys are. I hope this is true since I am a novice at carb tuning other than minor adjustments.
