i need all the firing orders for the bronco or 351 withe the ECC or ECU or something like that...anything helps thanks
The firing order that i have always used is this here....1-3-7-2-6-5-4, maybe a stupid question but...are you sure that it's a 351w 5.8L? not trying to insult you or anything, hope this helps
One more thing, that is counterclockwise in the firing order
The firing order should be cast on the intake manifold. I've never heard of anyone having so much trouble with a firing order. Basic questions: are you sure that it is a 351W, and are you sure that you are starting with the number one cylinder?
EDIT:
OK I see that you said that you are sure that it's a 351W. My guess then is that you are not starting with the number one cylinder, or you are going the wrong way. Pull the cap and have someone hit the starter and you can ascertain the direction of the rotor.
i havent touched anything since i pulled the wires off...what could have been thrown off?...this is also california and they came out with some crazy crap for smog...i wish i could get ahold of the guy that got me the order b4 ....#1 is on the front pass side right?.....
I believe so, but it should be marked on your intake manifold. If you have the stock manifold, the firing order and the cylinder numbers should be cast on it.
PS - I once saw someone put a distributor cap on "backwards," it would still work but since there is a number 1 marked on the cap, he put the number one wire there and it was 180 degrees in the wrong place (the number 1 on the cap is just for reference, but if you put the cap on "backwards" then you would be putting the number one wire in the wrong place if you used the mark).
The vehicle started and ran but had no power. Perhaps that is what you did?
the only way to mess up where the #1 lines up right on the distributor is by physicaly taking the whole thing out and moving it correct?
EDIT #1:
the thing is i never touched anything but the wires since it ran.i had it sittin for registration reasons.so it should be the same as when i parked it.its an odd ball order i remember the mechanic having problems too....
EDIT #2:
ok......so the number one written on the cap isnt where #1 on the cap is necessarily? im going off the caps 1 which is to the left pointed towards 3 and 4...maybe im going off the worng #1 or something...how can i make sure where the #1 is on the cap?
the firing order is 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8
. set engine to top dead center on the compression stroke and remove the distr cap and mark where the rotor points on the cap. place the first wire in that hole and make sure it goes to the #1 clynder( passenger side front) now working counter clockwise the next wire goes to #3 cylender. 3rd plug back on the passenger side. and so on and so forth until all plugs are done.
Folloe Bojofaso's instructions to set the firing order. An easy way to find TDC on number one compression is to remove the cap and the number one plug, wad up a napkin and place it over the number one spark plug hole, and have someone bump the starter until the napkin pops out. Number one will be at TDC on the compression stroke when the napkin pops out.
Or you can look at the harmonic balancer, you will see the letters TDC, bump it over until you see the line for TDC line up with the pointer next to the harmonic balancer
You have to make sure number 1 is up on compression. It is possible to get it 180* off with the mark on the balancer if number 1 is not up to fire. It will still run (barely) but will backfire and spit and sputter. Your number one can be anywhere on the cap depending on where the distributor was dropped in at one time. Follow BOJO`s instructions. Once at TDC on compression stroke, pop your cap off and mark on the outside base of the distributor where the rotor is pointing. Put your cap back on. Install wire going to #1 where your mark is. Follow the intake firing order from there. Once you get it running, check your timing.
