just got the headers and duals on my 70 ford f-100 with a 302. it had a single pipe with a catalytic converter and a big, round muffler, which i think is not factory. all its got now is headers, pipes, and mufflers. my question is this.....i live in Louisiana....should i have trouble getting an inspection sticker? ive heard 79's dont need cats, but now im not so sure. whats the deal? thanks for the help, as always
Emissions equipment was all related to GVWR and changed every model year back then. A 79 F150 would require all of the emissions equipment. PCV, EGR system, Cats, and maybe even a smog pump. Any aftermarket equipment will have to have a CARB # on it for that application to be legal, -just like the new vehicles.
I am assuming that the truck is a 79 correct? You posted it as a 70 and a 79.
If it say's unleaded fuel only on the gas gauge and has a small hole in the gas filler for the nozzle, then it should have the cat converter and such.
I don't know if they do visual inspections on vehicles that old there. They did not visual testing on 83 and older here. It was all good as long as it passed the sniffer test.
The standards for the older trucks like ours are pretty low. My 77 has a 460 with a CompCams 268h, Edelbrock Performer intake and 750 carb, headers and true duals with Flowmasters and no converters and it always passed with flying colors.

302/C4 Don't go by gas filler only. Mine has large opening in gas filler pipe but says unleaded on gas gauge. Truck is Canadian build. Has catalytic converter, EGR, Thermactor Pump to heads, PCV, Vapor Canister, and Air Cleaner preheater. Passed Ohio visual on cat and test of gas cap pressure and 35-40 mph dynometer exhaust emission test in Dec 03. Now 25 years no more e-check.
