Anyone remember the polaris desiel, I want that, I think the polarisis are really set up for working and low end tourqe, they have that big block 750 or whatever it is, that thing will move a house, that makes it nice on tight steep trails. If I had the money I'de buy a brand new polaris sportsmen, actually the expedtion if they still offer that, it has or had, atleast, a no clutch 5 speed. I guess its brand loyalty, even tho I've had the problems that I've had with mine I like there offerings and I like what mine will do for what it is. although the dealer is quit a ways from my house.
I have driven a Polaris diesel. It is pointless because it only produces power usable for pulling. It came only with a belt drive, so it would not pull well either compared to a 4-wheeler with a manual tranny or a Honda with an automatic transmission. Polaris 4-wheelers are not meant for work at all. They are for town people who only use them on weekends. They have also had many reliability isssues. Polaris is definitely one brand to stay away from. Honda 4-wheelers have plenty of power and have the only good auto tranny in the market. You would not be missing out on anything buying a Honda, and you will also spend very little on repairs.
I begg to differ i have roll my polaris 4 times and no damage my neighbor went up the same thing and it cost him 600.00 dollars to repair his honda a polaris will handle anything u can throw at it
How bad were the rollovers? That would make a difference. Anyway a Polaris is more likely to roll over than a Honda. A Honda will outlast a Polaris in any kind of situation.
I rolled my TRX450 the day after I bought it . The only damaged incured was scratched racks. There was a brace above the 'heads up' display that saved me mucho dinero. BTW, this rolled end over end 4 times....
WARNING!! Stay away from anything with a Polaris sticker. These ATV's are known as mechanics' dreams for a reason. Pure junk. They are great when they are running. Sadly they are destined to spend more time in the shop than on the trail. Get a Honda or Yamaha.
Deer Sniper, i am going to have to disagree with you. Polaris makes a great quad. My uncle has got a Magnum 500 and it has 5000 hard miles on it. it has been to the shop once, for a strut problem. that is pretty good for any quad with 5000 miles on it.
Every brand has it's Lemons. I just seem to hear of less problems with Honda than the others. A buddy with Kawasakis have rode em hard but always greases and services them as suggested. He hasn't had any problems. Myself, I prefer Hondas.

Rancher 400AT?, Rubicon 500?, Rincon 650?
Originally posted by DeerSniper I think the consensus is Honda.

Auto? Are you talking about the belt drive autos? I love the semi-auto on my TRX450. Absolutely bulletproof! I have about 1500 miles on mine. It doesnt get featherfooted either. I use it to haul grain, hay, and a trailer (sure beats a wheelbarrel when cleaning stalls...).
Maybe I should have said an affordable automatic transmission. The Hondas start at $6000 and go up to $7600..... WHOA! You can get an Eiger 4x4 Auto for $5200 out the door.
Originally posted by rancherman84 go with the honda.have a 03 rancher and love it.added the front end disconnect and love it even more.the 04 rancher are even nicer.
rancherman,
Where did you get the front end disconnect kit and how much did it cost. I have an 03 rancher and that is one of the few things I don't like it the full time 4wd.
BigDawg
Something to keep in mind, the Honda's in general have less ground clearance then the competitors. I have the 03 rancher and the 2 things I don't like is the ground clearance and the full time 4wd. I sunk mine in a small river, towed it back to the truck and when I got home, all I did was change and flush all the fluids and it fired right up. It hasn't given be a lick of trouble ever.
got my warn 424 kit from off road unlimited in phoenix ,az. phone 1 800 947 7007.about $250.00 with shipping.install time was about 2 hours and was fairly easy.makes a whole new machine out of it.saves on the front tires to.next is aset of itp mudlites,oh yeah.
