Truck won't start. I went on vacation so it's been sitting for a couple of weeks. I got back and went to start it and it took about an hour. It sat again all weekend and now it won't start again. It'll turn over, but it won't fire. It's got gas, the batteries good, I pulled the plugs and cleaned them off because it's been running rich, (that's another question for later.) and they got fouled. Still won't start. I'm letting it sit for an hour or so incase she got a little flooded while I was trying to start.
Anyway, anyone else have this problem? It always seems hard to start if it sits longer than a weekend, but this is the worst.
Just a guess, but I would check the points, maybe give it a good tune-up. My truck is a bear to start when it's flooded. Maybe check the floats in the carb to see if they are letting in too much gas. Or even rebuild the carb if it's been awhile.
You say your truck has gas. Does that mean you actually can see the gas flowing into the carb or the truck's tank shows that there is fuel in it. My suggestion is to pump the living daylights out of it, turn it over a couple times, and pump the heck out of it again. Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad and leaking off. Letting gas seep out of the fuel line back into the pump instead of staying in the line and to the carb. THe accellerator pump in the carb might also be leaking and letting gas seep out. The 360 in my '72 had the accellerator pump problem, and the 302 in my '70 had the fuel pump problem, so that's how I know that you may be having this problem, but, I've been wrong many times before! You can actually take a good accellerator pump out of an old carb and put it in your carb if you be really careful not to tear it and you know the old one didn't leak either. I did this with my beater '72. Maybe this will help dude.
It's a brand new Carb so I don't think it's the Accelerator pump. Fuel pump is a possibility. I have a clear fuel filter and it doesn't look like any fuel is leaking back down. I haven't actually looked though. Thanks for the help.
Apperently if the coil connections are dirty or loose it can cause this. Lol. My neighbor reminded me that a wire from the coil seemed loose last time we were messing with it. So, I went down and checked the wires, they seemed ok. I pulled the connections off the top of the coil and the posts looked a little dirty, I wiped em off and made sure it was on tight, then I went to try to start the truck. Fired up on the first try.
Live and learn I guess.
Thanks for the help guys.
