Dealing with the pain
My friends name was David Moose. There are very few people in this world who genuinely give so freely of themselves that you have to wonder if they weren't placed here by God Himself. He fit that description.
David, quite literally gave more to more people, and made a bigger difference in this world, than I can tell you here with my pitiful abilities.
He served in Viet Nam as a chopper pilot. Was shot down once and barely escaped with his life after his seatbelt wouldn't release (he finally had to cut it off, and would not wear a seatbelt to this day.) Decorated, but never mentioned it. You had to pry it out of his father-in-law.
He was an avid fisherman, whose greatest thrill in the world was to take his son and nephews, and their friends fishing for stripers. He talked about the thrill of seeing those kids faces more than he spoke of catching those big ones.
A true father just doesn't begin to describe him. His son (an only child) was his joy.
You'll not find a more devoted husband. He used to joke with me that it took him so long to get married 'cause he hated to give up sex.lol
He drove a 2002 F-250 Powerstroke diesel as a shop vehicle where he worked but never would get rid of that old '80 F-100 he had with the sufferin' six as he used to say.Used to kid with me that he "only had two more payments and it was his!"
This man could and would tell you jokes until your side literally hurt from laughing. He was as sharp-witted as they come. I never recall talking to him when he was in a bad mood. He used to say that after "Nam" life is gravy.
He complained to his wife Saturday that he was dizzy and didn't feel good as they were backing out of the driveway in her car. He had a massive heart attack and died instantly. His foot pressed the accelerator and the car went backward across the street through a neighbors garage and into a tree in the back yard. His wife was seriously injured but will be o.k. Worse, his son had backed out of the driveway first, and seen the whole thing.
I know you guy's didn't know him, but in some small way this makes me feel better. I can say with the certainty of every fiber within me, if you'd known him, you would have liked him.
Rest well, Dave.
Chuck
BTW, I was mistaken. According to his family, the man did 3 tours of duty in Viet Nam. ......the size of grapefruits, man.....
Thanks again,
Chuck
