Are the 70-74 351C 2V open chamber heads the same as the 71-82 400 heads and the 75-82 351M heads? I've heard stories going both ways, and I'd like some clarification.
No. The early 400 heads are pretty much the same head, but the 75 and later 351M/400 heads have restrictive exhaust ports as opposed to the "true" Cleveland 2V heads and early 400 heads.
Anything that restricts flow into or out of the heads is going to reduce the power potential of the head because IC engines are nothing but big air pumps. The 2 cc difference in the comb. chamber is negligible, chambers can vary that much from casting to casting.
