I have installed the duraspark II ignition in my 351C in place of the old points. I am wondering where the best place to hook my hot wire to. I currently have it connected to the starter solinoid at the same place that the battery cable(hot side) hooks up to. Is this right? My battery keeps getting sucked dry. I have to jump my truck off all of the time but my gauge shows that I have a good charge when the trucks running so I'm pretty sure that my altenator is ok. I am going to go buy another battery today and see if maybe I just have a bad battery.
The way you had it hooked up drained the battery. There battery is probably OK unless it froze while drained. A charged battery won't freeze but a discharged one will.
There are two power sources needed for a duraspark module. You need a hot in start and a hot in run. You had it connected to a hot always connection.
With the DS2 system, there are three "hot" (+12VDC) wires that you need to have connected correctly: main power for DS2 module (red wire), start signal for DS2 module (white wire), and coil primary circuit.
Here's a nice wiring diagram for the DS2 ignition system:
