I just bought a 73 ford f100. I was told that it had a 460! Started looking around and seen 352 stamped on the block. Started reading about 352's. To my understanding they say it can range from 330cid to 428cid. Is this correct? If so how can you tell what you have. Not really up to speed on ford motors. Any help would be appreciated..
My vin# is F10YUF27336 Sorry for sounding ignorant! But is a 360 a big block? The motor in this thing is huge! I would venture to say it would at least be a 390. I appreciate your help man.
Your VIN shows that the truck originaly came with a 360.
The FE series of engines do not really fall into the big-block small block area. Yes they are a large engine though. From the outside you really can't tell the difference between a 330 or 428FE.
The only sure way to know what CID your engine is, is to measure it's stroke. Take out the #1 plug(plug in front on passenger side) and put the engine at TDC. Put a stick or something stiff and straight in the plug hole. Mark the stick against a reference (like the edge of the valve cover) with a marker. Then rotate the engine over by hand until the stick goes to it's deepest point. Again mark this spot. Measure the distance between marks. If it turns out to be 3.5 inches you have a 360.
Hey I appreciate the help! I only paid 225.00 for the truck runs great but really bought it for the motor. 460, yeah right! You learn something new every day!!!!!!!!!! I'll try to see what the stroke is, If it ever stops raining!!! Freakin Alabama! Thanks man.
