ZF 5-speed that'll fit a 460. There is a diesel ZF and a gas ZF, you obviously want the Gas. The diesel will not interchange. There is a ZF for the small blocks, but that will not fit your big block 460.

Is it different gears for the gas or diesel ZF transmission or is it a bolt pattern that is different? If it is the bell housing bolt pattern can I change the transmission bell housing case of my 460 ZF transmission with a diesel ZF or a 302 ZF? If neither one can be done where is the best place to buy parts? Where can I get specs on this transmission?

The diesel trans will bolt up to a 460. The gears are the difference. The diesel being close ratio gears and the gas version being farther apart between shifts. If you found a small block trans you can swap the gears from it to your 460 housing.
A 4X2 trans will have a different output shaft and rear cover.
I need a shifter so if you find another trans I would be interested in the shifter.

your right its not, and thebellhousing on teh diesel is different because it doesnt have the starter bolts the 460 requires.

Everything I have read said the diesel bell was the same. Maybe it will bolt up but like you mention thereisn't any starter bolt holes. Interesting.
