Different animals, but the bell housing pattern is the same, so it will bolt up.
However, unless the '93 is a 4x4, you are not going to be able to use the 4x4 trans without changing it to a 4x2 model, is it will be made to bolt to a transfer case, not attach to a drive shaft.
All other auto to stick issues will apply as well.
Are you just looking for OD? An AOD would probably be a bolt in.

really, i didnt think they kept using the zf5 in the heritage f150s
I didn't think the modular motors and the older push rod engines had the same bellhousing pattern.....
i agree, as stated in my first post on this thread, i thought the old push rod motors and the modular motors were two completely different animals........

It's not modular it's the Canadian Essex V6 4.2L OHV engine. And the 4.2L's hat the same pattern as the 4.9L. I believe.
how much of a pain is it going to be to swap it to manual or would it be worth it to just keep it an automatic
After you round up all if the parts the install can be completed in no more than a weekend. I've never swapped to a manual from an automatic, but swapped a m5 to a zf5 and it only took like 1.5 hours. So I wouldnt think it'd take too long.

its defintiely worth switching to a manual, i am soon to convert my 97 350 to a 5speed. but i bought a whole truck to get EVERYTHING from for the swap. there are tons of small parts that will nickle and dime your budget if you dont have a truckt o grab everything out of, also make sure its the right bodystyle truck, there are tons out there.
not saying you have to have a parts truck, but it is no doubt the easiest way
