F-450 PSD. Both battery eyes where green, checked level in batteries and found all cells to be low. Owners Manual says nothing about color of eyes. Added distilled water to proper level as owners manual says. Put a low 2 amp charge on both batteries until charge turned off. Both battery eyes are now bright Red, what does this mean? Vehicle starts ok, batteries have a full charge. Called Ford customer service but no one could tell me what the colors mean. Called a ford dealer and was told that means the batteries are going bad! The vehicle is only 6 months old.
The same thing happened to my x-wife. Her eyes were green then we got married and they turned red.lol. Yep I think it's time to get rid of that evil battery.
Odd. I never put too much faith in those "eyes". Mainly because I'm not too sure how they work.
I do know that most reputable auto parts stores will LOAD (not voltage test) test a battery. It may be worth the $5 or so to test 'em before you go out an drop +$120 on a couple of new ones.
I would have a load test done on the batteries. It only takes a couple of minutes to do and will give a good indication of what kind of reserve power they have.Which is the best indicator of overall battery condition.
Hey guys dosent have any thing to do with his wife his battery must have a hangover gave it to much to drink thats why the red eye no really had the same problem last winter truck seemed slow to start so when I got to work I looked and one of them had a red eye carried it to the ford house hoping to get a new battery and they told me it was fine it went back green and i have never had the problem again.
Green is good, red is bad. If the truck is that new, definitely take it in for repair/replacement. Also have them check the charging system. One (or both- if so equipped) alternators may not be functioning properly.
Possibly the added water affected the way the monitor eyeball reads the battery, but the charging should have mixed in the water pretty good. Still, I'd drive it a few days and if it stayed red, then take it in under warranty.
Chk also that you don't have a constant trickle drain in your converter
if it is equipt with one.
I had a converter unit and charger unit that had a bad diode in it that
would leak to ground. Found out one day it the rain in a campground
got a nice 12v shock.Fleetwood changed the unit under warranty.
Am I assumming that these batts are also the house batts or are they
just to start the Motor?
Don't really know from your post.

An F-450 Motorhome? WOW--my dream motorhome. I just got back from a trip in my E350 motorhome and was constantly thinking about how wonderful it would be to have a SuperDuty body Class C motorhome. Why, I'd take that over a Class A.
