Engine Braking

What has better engine braking a diesel or a gasoline engine? I always thought the gasoline engine because it has the throttle plate to close off the air intake and the absence of a throttle plate on diesels was was why they put Jake brakes and/or exhaust brakes on diesels. But someone in a motorhome magazine said the braking is from the engine compression, which the diesel (of course) has a lot more of, and so they brake better.

You're right. The writer in the motorhome magazine doesn't have a clue.

Engine Braking

Engine braking is a term that can't be used in the same sentence as diesel engine equipped.It's in the throttle plates far a gasser and you have to plug the exhaust with a brake on a diesel.
