well i finally got my headers and dual pipes run on my 79 ford f-100, which took WAAAYYY more work that expected....but i love it now that its done ......but now, as if it appeared out of nowheres, ive got a yellow(with black stripe) wire just sticking out of the plug on my voltage regulator. its got a stripped end, and looks as if it was tied into something , but neither I or 2 friends could find it anywheres. since this wires been disconected, my alternator light on my dashhas been lit. does anyone know what this wire is....and where i should start looking for the other end? i know this is kinda vague....but i figured id ask before i went crazy searching for it (like my last electrical problem). thanks for any help
I Have a couple of diagrams, but i have no clue on how to post them. I think you would have the 4-wire setup, because to my understanding the 3 wire was for the gauge setup, and the idiot light has the 4-wire. If you want i can e-mail you the diagram.
i saved the first diagram the second i saw it, lol.....but yeah, id love to get more. my email is peter81083@hotmail.com.
....what is the "idiot light"?....is that what this wire goes to?
its almost daylight over here, and im going look for a possible connection as soon as the sun gets up. thanks for the help!
Is the condenser still there with the voltage regulator? A small silver cylinder that attaches with the voltage regulator, almost looks like a part of it but is in fact separate.
turns out, the wire slipped out of a connection with the alternator wire, and the in-line fuse holder ive got connectiong my alternator to my solenoid. finally got that fixed, and re routed my starter wire...so the headers are all good now .....id still like to do something about my emissions though....it still smells like its burning really rich. i want to put in a better coil, plugs, and wires....but only if it would give me a little extra power (i figured this would go good with a rich gas mixture).......whats everyone elses thoughts?
There is a fourth wire coming off my regulator that seems to have a fusible link on it. The end away from the regulator is broken off (likely from my hasty removal of everything in the engine compartment to install my 351W) Since I cannot see any wires going from the regulator to the solenoid or battery, I am assuming that this is what charges the battery and the reason my truck runs but needs repeated jumping. To replace this, can i just connect it to the positive terminal of the solenoid? Instead of a fusable link, can i use a large fuse? What amperage rating would be appropriate for this position in the charging system? Thanks for all the great info on this site. My 351W 78 F-150 has been a total success because of it!
