Question 4.2L v6 conversion to 5.4L v8

I am trying to convert a 4.2L v6 engine into a Lightning 5.4L V8. The problem is I do not know everything that is required to be converted. I know that my old transmission must be replaced along with the computer. That's all i know. I need some advice in what more i can look forward to changing to make it work.

In addition to the engine, you will need to change the transmission, driveline, radiator cowling, computer, full ECM wiring harness, etc. after you get it running you will probably find the stock springs, shocks and stuff are too soft for the added weight so you will need to upgrade them also. IMO this would not be a project for the weak of heart.

So in other words, you would have to replace everything. You aren't going to 'turn a 4.2 into a 5.4' ever. You gotta replace the engine and everything that goes with it.

Well you can, but it's going to take a a lot of time, labor, and money. I'm guessing the motor is out of a wrecked truck, so if you decide to proceed it might be cheaper to pickup the entire truck and sell whatever is left over when you are done.

or just go buy a used one with high miles I dont think that is a project work taking up, at all. I dont make a ton of money, but theres no way I would sink that kind of money into a truck. Byt the time you count up the time money and broken knucles, I bet you could have easily bought a slightly new L.

Good luck

Dude, unless you just gotta say " I did it myself", I would take the 5k+,- , that it's gonna cost , and trade up to a lightning. But that's just me , being lazy and all that, I look for the easier way , not the harder way.
