I hate the fact that I have to turn on my interior light to get my cargo light to turn on.. Can anybody out there see what is in the bed of their truck when the interior lights are on, well I can't
Chevy's I have owned have a seperate switch for the cargo and I was wondering if anybody out there has tried to serperate this from the interior lights. It seems to me that if I pulled the light switch out and determined which wires control the cargo light I could pull them and and a new switch, but I haven't seen a high quality switch that is small out there yet.
My other thought was to just tap into the wires and have it so I can either have it on with the interior lights or I could throw the switch. I figure if i use the same 12V source then I could do this without frying anything... oh welllllll hope to hear some feed back
Seems tot me that if the power goes to the interior light first THEN to the cargo light, you won't be able to put a switch to the cargo light cause you'll have no juice.
Do you know anybody around you that owns an Excursion? The cargo light for the Excursion has a on off switch. What if you replaced the X light with your dome light? You could then switch it off and keep the cargo light on. But I think you'd have to wire a small jumper wire...
Do you have an on/ off switch for your excursion? if so I could look into the cost of one and study one to see if it would fit. Does it have the same dash board as the trucks? I have never been inside one but they seem to be the same vehicle. Oh by the way I wasn't thinking about just putting an in-line switch in I was talking about pulling off the same power supply. also I was just having a little trouble following you on replacing the X light with the dome light if you could be a little more specific it would be much appriciated.. you got to be very explicit with us plumbers all we know is ##### runs down hill, pay day is friday, and don't bite your fingernails...
Just my $.02, but one of the best camping tricks I did to my old truck was to put a set of 55W off road Rally square lights under the bed rail. Got em from Kmart for $25 a pair and ran the wires and a D/C marine switch under the bed rail also. The hardest part is running the wires to the battery, but talk about bright. Never ever had a problem seeing in the dark. The switch is water proof and you can get it at any electronics store.
Can you not see in the bed because the interior light stays on? Or do you just want to be able to turn on the cargo light seperate of the interior light?
My proposed solution was to replace your existing interior light with the rear interior light from the Excursion. It has a manual on/off switch. That way you could turn off the interior lights without turning off the cargo light when the doors are opened.
If you want to be able to turn on the Cargo light independant of the interior light (and without opening the door) then I would agree that Doctorsmak41 has a good idea.
Wiring up a switch probably wouldn't be all that difficult, either.
I like to be able to turn the cargo light on independantly of the dome light because I cannot see past the rear window with the dome light on.
I think I'm gonna just seperate the cargo light circuit from the dome light and add another switch, I was at the auto parts store the other day and they have a small onw way switch that will work fine.. Thanks for the input..
