thats funny, cause dabuque injection inn iowa recommended it as a lubriciant and cleaner and said it would not hurt anything, now i am in limbo, don't know weather to use it or not, even though i heard many people do without ever having a problem. can you all post what your local shops say, or maybe your experiences with it. all info greatly appreiciated.

I've got a D2 and D4 Cat. I use 1 qt. per tank of fuel only once per year 'cause I don't run them alot.
If you're concerned about HP's checking your fuel, they usually inquiring at locations like weekly farm cattle auctions, and maybe a truck stop or two. I've driven a diesel powered car for 15 years and never stopped, asked or anything and it was totaled once (so they could have easily snooped then). BUT- they would have been wasting their time!!

I have asked many diesel technicians about using ATF in the fuel, most have said that it may do some good and it probably does no harm,
but there is no documented evidence that it does any good.

Every second tank of fuel I put a 1/2L of ATF(Automatic Transmision Fluid) in.
It keeps everything lubed and cleaned.
Works for me...
I have the jug in the cab to prove why the fuel is red.
I also have fuel receipts to prove where the fuel was bought.

After talking with a few guys at different diesel shops they all say ATF should not hurt. The detergents should help but the friction modifiers may be an issue. So I asked them about 2 stroke oil and the overall verdict was very positive. Just pour it into the filter and head down the hiway. Or add it to the tank for everday driving. The discoloration will not be noticed.

I'll buy the cleaning aspect, but not the lube. Atf is very high detergent but does little to lubricate. I have seen people use a quart of atf in their engines and it does keep them spotless in side but I wonder what the bearings looked like? If you want to do it anyway I would just use dextron 3. The old type F is suppossed to have even less lubrication.
I think Shafer might be on to something with the 2 cycle oil.
As a matter of fact I have a jug of CD-2 diesel additive at work that looks an awful lot like chainsaw oil. Hmmmm.
