I was thinking about putting an Accel super stock coil in my truck, Its an 87 f-150 4X4 5.8 with a duraspark II igniton, i was wondering if anyone ha done this and if anyone ha some rcomendations? i was thinking of a compleate msd ignition but short on cash right now and dont like the fact that it piggybacks the duraspark, but what would you guys recomend, thanks for the input.
I had the Accel coil on my GM HEI and the thing didnt last very long. The replacement didnt last long iether. Each time the coil went out, it took the module with it. Finally I went back to the stock coil and I didnt have to replace it or the module for the rest of the time I owned the truck. I didnt notice the truck having any less power or running any different with the stock coil versus the Accel. It did teach me the value of carying extra ignition parts in the truck tool box.
Well thats also HEI, im not a big fan of those or GM for that matter, any one else got some input. i want to see if i can get some inprovment in starting and maby power,
MSD has a replacement E-core coil for Ford TFI ignition systems as well. It was only about $40 when I bought mine a couple years ago. Still going strong, and I now have an MSD 6A box I bought from someone waiting to go in...
I apologize, I forgot that you said in your first post that it was duraspark. MSD has their "blaster 2" coil that would do fine in your application. It's the same thing as I have, but in the regular canister form that is used with Duraspark ignitions.
Well, combined with a dynomax exhaust (cat back), new wires, plugs, cap, rotor, my fuel mileage went from 12 when I bought the truck to right around 15 right now.
i think im gonna get it, im looking for better milage from my truck, ive done just about everything i can think of short of headers, ive got no cats, no air pump (not by choice, it seized and couldent see spending 100 bucks on it) cat back summit 3" dual exhaust, and a 14X5 open element K&N, so i think ill put the coil in and give it a shot, thanks for the input.
ATC....what did you do about the surpentine belt? my '91 is making a rattling type sound and would like to by pass it before it does the same as yours & leaves me stranded. 5.0.. Fords forever!!!
I have a 5.8, last year of the 4bbl and V-belts, mine just had a belt off the alternator to the pump, i cut that belt, in your case take it off the truck, open it up and break the fins out of it then re assemble. then you just have a pully spinning a shaft.
