Holley Electric Choke

On a 1967 Mustang I have a Holley Carb. with an Elecrtic Choke. Do I wire the Hot Wire To Tha Alt.? if so Does it Go To the Sta. Terminal?
Thanks

Yes, you should hook it to the stator term on the alt. That way it is only powered when the alt is charging and no power when the key is on but not running.

I was looking around a lot about this, and forgot to post back.

There are two types of electric choke housing, Ford and Holley. I think they can be swapped. One takes stator voltage, around 7V - the Ford.

The other, is a true Holley and is meant to use 12V

The real question is, is this a stock Holley, or did you add it later? If it's a Holley-boxed carb, it'll take 12V and it won't work well with the stator connection on the alternator (been there, done that) - it'll take a long time for the choke to turn off.

If it's a stock OEM unit, it probably has the Ford choke housing, so it will work well on the stator terminal.

Thanks for the reply,Its a new Holley not a stock Ford Holley with Electric Choke.
Where do you think a good way to run the hot wire for the choke?
thanks

On a '67 Mustang? No real idea, but BEFORE the ignition coil resistor wire? Trace the + from the coil back to the resistor wire and tap in before the resistor. Wherever the radio gets it's power?

There also should be a tap (spade) in the fuse block that says "IGN", but you could try splicing into the ignition switch too...

I really can't think of any place that is "key hot" under the hood of a '60's ford that you can use, except for the positive to the coil but you have to watch out for the resistor wire.

Isn't there an ignition hot on the Solenoid (starter relay)? That's where I tapped in with my Painless Wiring 7 Cirkit Boss kit. It has 4 relayed terminals that come on with the ignition (I use it for my MSD, Choke, Fuel Pump and eventually my Tranny cooler fan).

I don't think so gtex. The I terminal only is hot when cranking as is the S term. I think?? I have heard about using an on/off oil pressure switch to keep it off unless the engine is running.

PS Nice catch krewat, I didn't realize they were two diff voltage!!!

I'm pretty sure it's hot. It triggers my MSD and my fuel pump relays and my truck runs !

I'm pretty sure that terminal on the solenoid is to supply a full 12V to the coil when starting. As in, it supplies full 12V AFTER the resistor wire when cranking for a hotter spark. It's really an output from the solenoid.

You would see a "hot-with-key" condition on that terminal, but it would be restricted with the coil resistor wire. So any real load wouldn't work (or blow your resistor wire), but a relay WOULD - that's why your fuse-box works, Gtex... !

12V->ignition-key->resistor-wire->coil+

The I terminal from the solenoid connects to the wire from the resistor-wire to the coil.
