hey,
I am looking to put some 15" subs in the back of a 2000 eddie bauer expedition. i was wondering if i can just remove the stock subwoofer that came with the mach audio, and just run the subs off those cables or do i have to get it all rewired, im guessing that i will have to rewire because stock probably cant carry that load, but just a question. Is it also possible after this gets taken care of to just keep the OEM head unit or is it mandatory to switch to another one? I was thinking that it is possible because the mach audio includes a subwoofer, but i am hoping it is possible
You need to re-wire. The wire used for the Mach system is 16g, and for 15's you need at least 4g to the amp, and 8g to the subs. There is no way the Mach wires will work! You can keep your Mach radio if you wanted to, but I would suggest getting an aftermarket. It is much easier to use aftermarket pre-outs, then splicing in to make your own.
Post up what kind of 15's and amp, and we can get into more detail, and maybe help you find a head unit.
