It looks like it has multiple injectors and no TB, which leads me to believe it is multiport but I wanted to confirm this.
What exactly is the difference between the two types?
MP EFI has been introduced in 88 and prior to that, TB has been used - at least on cars. That's another question, is there any difference in MP EFI on cars and trucks?

The '89 should be multiport injection - multiport was first used in '87 on the 4.9 and 5.0, and '88 on the 5.8 and 7.5. Throttle body injection is more similar to a carburetor, with a throttle body sitting flat on the intake manifold much like a carburetor would. The injectors, usually 2-4 of them sit on top of the throttle body. Multiport has a single injector for every cylinder in the intake runner for each cylinder. There is still a throttle body, but it is mounted vertical at the front of the intake manifold. There are two basic types of multiport injection. The truck systems were batch fire, where 4 injectors are fired at the same time. Later trucks with mass-air systems fired each injector individually when the intake valve opened for that cylinder (sequential EFI or SEFI). Most cars with multiport were SEFI, both speed density and mass-air. That's the biggest difference between the cars and trucks, is the cars are mostly SEFI, while most trucks are batch fire.
The MPI was first used in 86 on 5.0's in trucks and cars.
It still has a throttlebody on the front of the intake where the air tunes from the air filter box run too. It is called multi-port injection because there is an injector for each cylinder.
Throttlebody injection just has 2 injectors in the throttlebody itself and the intake is set up like a carburated engine.

Interestingly, my 93 Caprice with 5.7L and EFI has throttle body injection (looks like a carburator with 2 injectors), while the 89 Ford truck has MPI (8 injectors for each cylinder).
Have they made any advances in EFI over the last 10 years?
