Just had a Check Engine light come on in my 1998 F-150 4.6L V8. Turned out to be the heater hose leaked onto the spark plug and filled the spark plug hole with coolant. Simple fix, tighten the clamp on the heater hose and clean the plug and wire. Might want to check it out if you haven't found your fix yet.
I have had the check engine light on for the last 6 months or more. The last time I took it to the dealer, they told me it was running rich on one bank and that Ford was supposed to do a tech article on how to fix it. Still nothing. Now my warrantee is gone and its going to cost me a mint to take it to a dealer..whom I now have no faith in. The next best dealer is in another town and I don't really want to walk home and wait for it...nor can I afford it right now.
I'm not a lawyer, but if you have a service order stating the condition existed and they were waiting on info from Ford, that particular problem is still in warranty. Anything that was identified while it was in warranty and not repaired due to the dealer or Ford is still covered. This is if you have done due dillegence in following up with them and it hasn't been a year or anything.
If you don't have it in writing, you'll have trouble making it stick. I used to work for a competitor. I'm sure Ford would love to know that a dealer is blaming lack of a tech article for not fixing something. You can appeal to Ford in cases like this.
