random engine misfire

i drive a 97 explorer sport, 4literv6 SOHC, i read somewhere that sometimes there are random engine misfires and i think i thats happened a few times. at first i thought my tranny slipped or something. but it only has 87K miles and ive taken real good care of it, and so did the previous owner. is there anything i can do about this?

and a lil off topic, but when im shopping for accessories, there usually is no explorer SPORT category, so if i bought clear corner lights for instance under the category or 95-01 explorer, would it fit the SPORT models too? if you understand what i just said, please help clear that up.....

thank you

There are a couple of things that would cause the 'misfire'... check the MAF and air cleaner first. The next thing to check are the plugs and wires. If you are not running platiinum plugs, they should be replaced about every 30,000 miles. IMO, when replacing the plugs, do the wires at the same time.

For your 'off topic' question.... yes they will fit. The Sport is just a shorter 2 door Explorer. In your model year, all the lights are the same from model to model.
