P0301 - What now?
My 2000 explorer sport just activated the check engine light, and says 0301, Clynder 1 misfire detected. So I came here to search. I first went to the RECALLS/TSB'S link to hunt around... What great luck, I see this...
Make : FORD Model : EXPLORER SPORT Year : 2000
Service Bulletin Num : 0232 Date of Bulletin: FEB 18, 2002
Component: OTHER
Summary:
SOME VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 4.0L SOHC ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P0300 (RANDOM MISFIRE) OR P0301. *TT
Now that's the summary, how do I obtain the full detail of that?
I just happen to have the 2000 sport with SOHC, that seems to have had every other factory defect to date...
Also, I have recently replaced the fuel filter and used two bottles of fuel additive on two tanks of gas... I have to sadly add that I recently repaced
half of my plugs the drivers side, two days before the diagnostic code showed up. From what I can tell the code is the passenger side. Now, I didn't replace the other side, because I'm not sure how to get at them. My arms are to big to fit in there. I'm taking the truck to a buddy on Friday. The first three were changed last Friday. It'll be a week with the 50-50 split.Anyway, I'm sure I'll catch flak for the half spark plug job, but I started on the easy side not knowing the hard side was impossible...
Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated :-)
i changed all 6 a couple months ago, just yesterday my check engine light comes on. its code PO304, cyl 4 misfire. so i check my spark plug wires, cyl #4 wire is tore up, it's sitting on the exhaust manifold, so it wore out, melted, toasted. the funny thing is, i put the wires on EXACTLY as Ford did it. so I asked my mechanic friend about it, he says he sees at least 2 or 3 explorers a week with the same problem, at least one or more wires are tore up by the engine, by the placement of the wires. I say check ur wires, u may have a bad one. to get to the passenger side, its tough, but look at it from underneath first, to get a vantage point as to where they are situated. then find someone with the right tools. and with skinny arms. and u may need a step stool, my friend is 6'1" and still had to use a step stool to reach the wires from the top. just too much crap crammed into one tight area....
