Wondering about the 4" downpipe. Is this a complete new exhaust from end to end, or just changing the downpipe to 4", and what noticable changes occur after modification? Thanks.
A downpipe is the first section in the exhaust system, similar to a set of headers on a gasser. The benefit of a downpipe is reduced exhaust temps, and less restriction, so you'll be able to develop more power. As with a set of headers, the full benefit can't be felt without replacing the rest of the system with larger diameter tubing, preferably 4".
what year truck do you have? a 4" dp will not fit a '94-'97 without major modding, but a 3"dp will. the 4" dp should fit in a 99+ with little or no manipulation of the firewall, then go 4" the rest of the way back
I have a 2000, considering upgrading exhaust. Just in the information gathering phase at this time, looking at getting some gauges, but figured getting it done all at once. When changing to 4", are most people leaving the muffler inline? I read a couple of posts where the went straight. I have 3 boys and we use the truck to go everywhere, and the wife will complain if the noise level gets too much higher, so what effect will changing have on that?
Originally posted by Jozey 94-97 psd can only fit a 3 inch down pipe, and thats a tight fit.
thats partially true... a 3" dp usually fits easily, a 3.5" takes a little more work but it will fit, and a 4" will fit with a lot of firewall bending and an ebpv adapter... i have a 4" dp in my '96 and 6" straight pipe out the side
I've seen your downpipe 96,maybe mine is a 3.5 inch but it has almost no clearence from the firewall and the exhaust going behinde the motor. But its the best thing(exhaust)I ever bought for any of my vehicles with the biggest gain.
