My wifes computer just got attacted by a computer virus. It came in the form of "mail transaction failed" .Our computer picked it out as a virus alert. It also comes in the form of "mail delivery system" or "test" or "hi"It didn't get in but it's coming around.Does anybody have any info on it?just thought I'd mention it.It happened about an hour ago.
She happened to catch it .I was just trying to find out about it .i got a little info on it.It's some kind of worm or something.Just wondering if anybody else recieved anything like that recently. We have a few anti-virus programs set up.It seems to be something new.She sends e-mail a lot.It might be something someone would open after sending an e-mail,then thinking it got returned.I don't mean to alarm anyone.Just trying to figure out how dangerous it is .you guys have been helpful in the past on this stuff.thanks
Apparently it's a new virus called MYDoom that out in the last couple days and it is probably the worst virus ever. I read that it send emails out from an infected computer at a rate of hundreds per second which bogs down major networks etc.
Yahoo news has a few stories on it ( http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...e_mail_worm_16 ).
I also read about it at McAfee's site.
It's a potential security risk, since it logs keystroke and drops a back door, the likely hood that your computer would be targeted though is low. I wouldn't give type any personal information that could set you up as a potential target though.
I proabably used the wrong word is saying that she was targeted, lol. We are both on the same line so i thought what she would get,i would get also.I don't go to many sites, maybe thats why it didn't show up on mine.sorry about the terminology.
Bottom line is to never open an email attachment, especially from someone you don't know. And if it is from someone you know,I'd send them a mail asking if and what they sent before opening it. Otherwise, most anti virus programs are kept pretty well up to date.... usually after the virus is sent though.
A mass email worm known as Worm_Mimail.R is on the loose worldwide, be aware that our vendors and our customers can potentially be impacted by this and could be sending us these messages in addition to the numerous other valid domains these messages are originating from.
Currently we have verified that our Email Virus Scanners have stopped hundreds of these worms from entering our network, but a small number of these messages have penetrated our defenses.
Please understand that during these types of attacks our email systems may potentially slow down as they are dealing with mass quantities of malicious messages destined for users!
EVEN IF THE MESSAGE APPEARS TO BE FROM A VALID SOURCE, PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY EMAIL THAT MATCHES THE DETAILS BELOW!
