Your truck is controlled by a computer. Sometimes when something goes wrong with it. "Sometimes" it's a computer
problem and the dealer "re-flashing" or clearing error codes
can slove the problem.

Most of those posts are talking about diesel.

In the vehicles engine computer there is a chip that has all the parameters the engine needs to run correctly. Some of the early 6.0 diesels have some messed up commands causing runnability problems. re-flashing means hooking the engine computer to a machine that updates the parameters to resolve these issues.

Actually clearing error codes and "re-flashing" are two different things. Clearing the error codes is done with a code reader/diagnostic tool or by disconnecting the battery for an hour or so. "Re-flashing" is done with a programmer and re-writes the program code in the "flash" eprom in the computer to correct errors in the code or to over-write bad sections of code that weren't programmed correctly due to some kind of manufacturing error.

Yes they are two different things. What I was saying is that they can both clear a problem. One that is there or not. Without getting to far into the details of tech and computer programing

Tekkie Q:

I had my beloved towed in last week for a dead crank sensor. After the tech plugged in the handheld, he found the problem. I'm running a Banks chip in my diesel and it doesn't seem to be as peppy after the work was done.

Is it likely the handheld changed anything in my chip? I was there watching him do the diagnosis, no PC or anything - do I need to get my Banks chip redone?

Thanks for the help

Ahem, Some reflashing has caused MORE probs for 6.0 users, depending on the vehicle "flashed". Fords little trick about turning off Pilot Injection is also raising eyebrows.

So watch what you "reflash"
