How do I clearance my HV oil pump on a rear sump 351w oil pan? The engine is in the truck. The gentleman at Autozone did not tell me I needed to clearance it and now I have a hole in my oil pan
Any suggestions?
Clearencing is done before you put the pan back on. I have always used clay between tow pieces of wax paper.
You bolt the pump on, put you clay on the bottom of the pump(closest to the oil pan), and then install the oil pan. The pan coming down will squish the clay and tell you what the clearance is.
Sounds like this is too little too late at this point though.
Thank you for the replies. No, it did not com from the picup, I believe it came from the corner of the pump itself, perhaps the bolts. If I do take it back, do I even need an HV pump?
I ran into this with a 351 I'm building. When I went to install the pan, it rocked on the hv pump. I ground the corners off the pump for clearance, but wasn't enough. I ended up heating the pan with a torch and forming it with a ball peen hammer. I used clay with saran wrap to check clearance.
