Okay guys. so I'm teaching my son how to drive on some old gravel roads at our family farm. He broke the turn signal cam because he paniced and hit the lever too hard. As a result the right hand turn signal quit working. Well I replaced the cam yesterday and now the front turn signals don't work and nothing blinks and the brake lights are flakey. I took it apart again and double checked that I was getting a good connection between the four wire posts on the cam and the 4 contact points on the receiving end inside the steering column. Contact is good but still no blinky blink. In fact when I turn on the right hand blinker the right hand brake light goes out and vise versa for the left side. What gives? Has anyone else ever experienced this? If so what did you do to fix it?
i kinda had problem like this...all my ights would mess up and some times do totally wierd stuff....it was wierd...i replaced the fuse...and it started working again....lol...hope that helps........
Don't know if it's possible, but maybe the flasher fuse. I wasn't sure which fuse MudinMan was talking about. Mine blew out on the '68 and was pretty much possessed until I replaced the flasher fuse.

That is the way the lights work....cant have blinkers and brake lights at the same time on the same side....blinkers have priority...all handled by the turn signal switch and its magic internal contacts
As suggested check the fuse and the flasher unit....maybe it just died at the same time.
Okay Sparky...but what ablut the fron lights. Usually the front turn signals would flash too but I"m not getting anything- no flash no solid amber glow no nothing. Still the blinker fuse? I looked under the dash and did not see one do any of you guys know where this little thing is located? I imagine it'd be close to the fuse block...or maybe behind the instrument cluster (which I haven't checked yet).
Well the first thing I did was compare the two parts before cutting any wires. It was identical by sight. Next I cut the wires while carefully noting which colors went to which connection. There is very little wire to work with and I wanted to be sure that I I was only cutting once. The last thing I wanted to do was get the wires so short that it'd take a miracle to fix. It's just frustrating because, not that it's hard getting to the cam but it's just a back and forth deal...once you think you fix it you have to assemble it to see if it works and if it doesn't then you disassemble it and then "fix it" and reassemble. It's a pain in the neck for something that should be simple and easy...THERE"S ONLY @ WIRES FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!! haha-you'd think.
I see in the resto books they offer a "cam repair kit". Not sure if this was what you bought. If you cut wires, then it seems you replaced the whole switch? Or did you have to cut them to replace cam?
I know from past experience that there are different switches for different years of our trucks. This is what seems has happened to yours. The correct wires are not touching anymore, and so the lights are not working correctly.
I would recheck what year your part fits and make sure it was correct.
When i got my '67 f100 the turn signal cam was broken and nothing worked at all. I found a entire turn signal switch unit from a late 70's or early 80's truck. It had about a half dozen extra wires and a hazard switch mine didn't have. The wire color code was the same on the wires I needed and I just ignored the rest of the wires. The turn signals and break lighs started working again.
