Well...tomorrow I shall remove the timing chain cover as last resort. Tried to avoid it but tried everything but the welding. Due to check the chain anyway.....
Thanx all!
Call around to your local parts houses and see if you can find a stud remover they work great for broken bolts. I’ve had only one or two broken bolts that mine couldn’t take out.
O.K....I removed the broken bolts, picked up a timing cover gasket kit, cleaned everything and am ready to re-install everything. However, I dont have a timing cover seal removal tool. How can I remove the old seal without damaging the cover and how can I install the new seal without the install tool without damaging the new seal?
Thanx for all the help!
From inside the timing cover or from the outside, put a slotted screwdriver between the seal and the front of the cover. GENTLY tap it down with a hammer, working your way around the seal. Eventually it will be out enough for you to pry it out with a screwdriver from behind. Just be careful not to crack the timing cover. Note which direction is forward on the old seal so that you can match it with the new seal.
Put the new seal in place, and GENTLY tap around it until it is in seated. Again, you are trying to not crack the cover, and trying not to deform the seal too much. Just be patient. Additionally, once you get it started, you could put a piece of wood over the seal and hammer on the wood; that should help drive it in evenly and not bend it too much.
OK, I got the new seal in the timing cover, everthing is clean and guess what. I got a brain fart. Cannot remember the sequence in putting it all together. I cleaned the oil pan and have the new gaskets ready. What's first, gasket seal on the new oil pan gaskets, re install the bolt on the large sprocket etc etc etc...
thanx
