In the mustang Ford went to 3 valve varidable valve timing. Did the pickups get this on the 5.4s? If the V-10 get this in 05 than it would not be possible to put on a earlier model.
Why would it not be possible? All you would need is the new heads, cam chains and computer. It would cost a few bucks but it would be a bolt on easy swap. You can bolt the intec heads onto any 5.4 and Ford put those heads on a V10 by just adding to them. Remember nothing inside the motor is changed.
They list tons of changes but you can book they are made on the same line with the same equipment. So head bolts and such will more than likely be the same. Know way to really know till it is tried I am sure it will not be to long before someone tries.
3 valve V10 heads, varidable timing camshafts, computer.
That sounds expensive for a 40hp/ 40FT# gain. I would bet $2500 for the heads alone from Ford.
Speaking of 3 valve V10's etc. Has anyone had experience turbocharging (not supercharging) a V10? My 99 with 90K miles is in great shape but I've been thinking about performance mods that could help mileage as well. If you keep your foot out of the floor a turbocharger (in theory) will improve mileage versus conventional aspiration or supercharging. Anyone tried this on their truck?
I am also looking for a turbo charging solution. I called Banks Power and a few other performance shops, but no luck. One of the better turbo solutions is www.ststurbo.com with there remote turbo kits. I liked their solution because custom headers are not required. They do Chevy Tahoe's, but not Ford V10's. If we can get enough people interested, maybe we could persuade them into building a kit.
Is there any reliable information out there which talks about the V10 combined with the torqueshift transmission? I am interested in a F250 Crew Cab and wondered if if would be better to wait till this combination is available. Thanks for your help.
