Sway bars

I'm going to be installing front and rear sway bars on my 70 2wd 1/2 ton and would like to know if anyone has used the bars that are available through LMC. Looking for tricks, pitfalls, tips. Or better yet, A manufacture of sway bars that would fit my 70. I've done some searches and surfed but there just isn't a application for my rig, that I can find anyway. Thanks.

I did sway - on front - anyway

Yes they work and I got mine there. But you have to weld or bolt attaching clips to the I Beams. I still have new ones for rear, I couldn't use because I put gas tank behind axle and the rear bar curves into that area.

That's good news but I'm not to excited about welding or drilling on the I beams. I'm hoping to find a U bolt type set up to attach to the beam. I don't mind drilling or welding on the frame

I lucked out and got some nice junkyard ones. The photos are in my Club FTE site. They show some pretty clear pictures and the captions have good detail, including sources, measurements, and prices.

From the looks of it, it was made by Hellwig. And very easy to install. A new kit should require no drilling. You may want a friend to hold things straight while you tighten it all together, though.

And now, here I go shouting...
THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY THE FINEST ADDITION I HAVE MADE TO THE HANDLING OF ANY TRUCK!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! THEY REALY WORK!!!

You can now remove your ear plugs. ;-)

Sway bars are amazing. It's the truth.

Oh, and I'm reasonably sure (90%) that the ones listed in the Hellwig catalog for the 73-79 will fit our trucks. I believe this was confirmed by another contributor who called Hellwig. I think the answer was something like, "Oh, gee, did we forget to list those older trucks in the new catalog?".

Now thats what I'm talking about. Matt those pics on your site are great. Looks exactly the way I thought it would. Going to the bone yards and see what I can come up with. If no luck I'll call Hellwig and find out about the 1970 application issue. Thanks

Here's a link on this site that had the number...
https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/...ID73/2147.html

Another good bet is to do a search on this forum and look for "Hellwig" (correct) and "Helwig" (in case somewun mis-spelled it).

Here's a catalog that lists newer models:
http://www.firestoneairbag.com/websi...rucksframe.htm

And you could always email FE427TP (a member on this site) -- I think he said he'd ordered the Hellwig "7422" for the front of his '68.

why not use factory stuff I used front bar 1.62'' from a 78 F 250 got to drill some holes in the frame to mount the bar so take a tape measure with you when you find & pull one to get the right location to mount the bar. You will have to brake down the axle radius arm assembly to get the axle mounting brackets. On the rear I used one off of a 80's bronco it simply ''U'' bolt's to the rear end all you have to do to the linkage arms is make them strait put them in a vise & take the bends out of them the frames are narrower as you know you will have to drill to holes in the frame I mounted my right in the shock mount area . Put all new urethane bushings in available from any real auto parts store the ones I used were made by moog Im from the houston area so i was able to obtain my from the 5 area pick & pull yards got every thing for around 100 bucks now I want you to realize that I just didn't drive there in one day and get that front bar it might take you a while to find one so if you can be patient . I put all of this on my 1970 F100 2WD man this thing drive's like a completly different truck study the axle brackets you will need to do a little modifing to the bracket & axle [minor] to make it work but it's worth it if you want all factory [that is made by ford ]sway bars good luck.

Hey XLT70black

I'm alittle south of the pasadena area in Friendswood. We haven't probably used the same pick-n-pulls. I just got a 69 aluminum grill from the one on Shaver. Anyway, shoot me an email. I'm the guy you might have seen driving around in a 70 purple shortbed.

you can get my email from my profile

thanks
Austin
