I just looked at a really nice Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the 304 V8. I was just wondering if anyone has ever owned one of these and what they thought of it? I know it's not a Ford but it is nice and it is cheap because the previous owner died. Every one I know that has a Wagoneer loves it so I wanted to hear some other opinions.
It is a 1984 with new paint and interior, rebuilt tranny and nice chrome wheels.
Also I was wondering how good of an offroad vehicle this would be if I put a lift on it and different tires and supsension?
I had one of those vehicles, and would happily get another should I find a nice looking one. Off road, they are remarkably able, even without the lift or suspension. Articulation is amazing for such a comfortable and low looking vehicle.

That's what I wanted to know about everyone I know that has one just stays on the highways they don't ever go any where so I didn't no how one would do. I am supposed to go drive it Friday and if it runs good I will buy it about the end of next week hopefully.
GO FOR IT! I LOVE THE OLD WAGONEERS. before becoming a bronco guy i was a CJ-7 and jeep guy. a friend of mine had a 66 wagoneer and that thig was awesome. i looked at a 72 wagoneer but bought my bronco insted, i just didnt need all that room and i'd always wanted a bronco.
My folks had an '86 that I used to love to drive, except I stayed broke and couldn't keep gas in the thing! It had the 360, and was loaded. Rode great, and as far as major mechanical problems, there were none. It DID seem like there was always some little something wrong, usually cosmetic. A squeak here...a side view mirror control breaking loose there. But the thing was a tank. It drove great. Ride was smooth. Got about 10mpg, but my Mom used to say if she'd wanted gas mileage she'd have bought a Yugo!
I just got back from driving this thing and it runs like crap. So I won't be buying it. I am wanting something I don't have to work on everyday but just every now and then. So this is not what I want.
