new F350

Hi everyone. Just purchased a new F350 Lariat PSD. Kind of new to the diesel area. Mileage so far is 14.5/17.9 with 1800 miles on the truck. A couple questions for this rookie. What is this "flash" everyone talks about??

Also I've started to hear this new whinning noise, high piched. seems to be realted to the engine but not positive. Anyone have any ideas on this noise??

Your truck is run by a computer (3 actually if you have an auto). The "flash" is a new program that is a modification of previous programs to "fix" performance issues. See http://www.flatratetech.com/6literpo...l_updates.html. It is a list of previous "flashes" for the 6.0L. Unfortunately, like other software developers (Microsoft, Sun, Oracle) some of their "fixes" manage to break something else. Subsequently, we get flashes that require more flashes, etc.

If it is intermittent and only happens when you are accelerating, it is your turbo and that is normal. If it happens all the time, you might take it to the dealer to check the serpentine belt or could be a lot of things.
