I bought my truck used. It didn't come with a spare or the hardware for a spare. I assume this is normal for heavy duty trucks. I don't know for sure. Do you guys carry spares under bed?
I wouldn't mind getting the hardware to put one under bed. I don't know if there's enough room for my tire size. Anybody with experience here?

All the Super Duties I have looked at have the spare tire mounted under the bed (standard, not optional). The Excursions have their fuel tanks mounted in that location, since they store their spare tire "indoors".
If you bought your truck with the 315/75x16 already on, perhaps the prior owner removed the spare, since it looks like from postings to this board, that 285s are probably the largest tire you can fit under the bed, in the stock location.
I've been kind-of chomping at the bits, at the idea of adding an Excursion's 44 gallon fuel tank in this location, to supplement my wimpy 29 gallon tank (short bed). I'm also running 315/75x16 (no lift), and my stock 235 spare would be pretty lame anyway if need.

Also bought mine used with no spare. The previous owner had put 33's on 10" rims. I bought a used rim and tire and mounted it under the bed myself. No special hardware (bought from Ford), just a couple 1/2" all threads and some nuts.
BTW I did have to use it Memorial day when one of my tires developed a bulge. I couldn't drive over 35 mph without shaking the truck apart (plus the tire could blown at any time). Haveing that spare 125 miles from home was a life saver. I think my spare is a 235 65.
With a Lariat package, it should of come with a spare. Who knows what happened to it, but I can't imagine the truck NOT coming with one from the factory.
I was the one who put the larger tires on. I would like a tire the same height. I wouldn't mind it being narrower though. Then again a exact replacemnt to the set I have would be good even on a different rim. I suppose I coulld take one off the truck and floor jack it up to see if it'll fit.
BTW I saw no signs of this truck ever having a spare or the hardware for mounting it.

I factory ordered a 99 F350 back in April 98. I thought I was getting one of those mini spares because the Kelly Blue book page said it came with the truck. Upon further research, I found that the spare was an option back then. I ordered the crank assembly and a steel rim and simply bought a tire from Firestone. I don't know how big you can go, but it does seem tight under there for the stock size. The crank assembly looks like it would work with any tire size; you're just limited by tire diameter hitting frame parts before it goes all the way up.

Hey Steve, I removed the stock tire mounting hardware from my truck because my spare is now in the bed. I'm not sure if the mounting locations would be the same on '99 vs '02, but if you think it would fit and you want it, you can have it, I'll never need it.

I'll need to measure to see if the tire will fit. I would like the same size spare as the set I'm running. I could as a less ideal situation run one of my factory tires for a spare.
I'll check it out so I Know what I can do.
