Hey all!
Would it be too weird to run a 5 on 4 1/2" pattern on the front (stock Aerostar clip) and a 5 on 5 1/2" on the 9" rear?
Or should I be getting one of them redrilled to match the other.
The only problem, since I want to run smaller wheels on the front than the back, is the spare, and having to carry 2 of them, but maybe you guys know some better way!
If you have a 9"Ford rear, 65-6-7 E200 Vans have the axles you would need. So do some P-Cars.
Or as he said have them made, or have your rear axles re-drilled to the smaller pattern by a competent machinist.
Unless you are going to "Work" your truck, of course.
Thanks for all the input guys, I know the Truckfarmer gave me a list somewhere of the types of cars you can pull one axle from and have bigger brakes too, and I think it's posted here on FTE but I dont quite know where.
Can you drill a 5 on 4 1/2" pattern between a 5 on 5 1/2" pattern on say a Jackman white spoked wheel? Or is the hub hole too big?
OK then guys thanks for the help!! If I go the change axle/backing plate/brakedrum route at $ 90/axle would that be more expensive than having my axle flange redrilled? Any idea what that costs?
and Jowilker, what are ya trying to say? LOL

My machinist drills my axles and drums for $70. Include the price of new bearings and lug studs. I have redrilled the front rotors before but I don't recommend it. We did this on my 56. At the time, you could get asbestos brake pads. With the newer/harder pads, the rotor is actually wearing too. So some day I will have to replace them. I got wheels with both patterns so when I replace the rotors I can put the stock Camaro rotors back on.
The other option is to use the driver's side axles from a 77-79 T-bird/Cougar, 72-79 Torino/Montego, Ltd II. Do a search in the 48-60 Forum for a better explanation of what is entailed. We have done it and the only modification was to change to a thinner bearing retainer on the axle.
