what size of pipe should i use for a 460 dual exhaue\st setup.
engine has Very Mild cam, 4 barrel hi-rise, and will be getting fender headers. i want a deep rumble. loud when i step on it.
when i drop the 460 in my 78 iam going to run tri-y headers 3" pipe and flowmaster 40 series in a true dual set up. but i will me running a 585 lift cam as well with 112 deg. lobe sep. but i would recommend the 3" and 40 or 50 series flowmaters
i have a 79 that had a 460 bored .060 and it had true duals with cherry bomb turbo mufflers. i have never heard it since the motor was blown up but i bet it sounded good
if you're running a high rise intake, go with three inch... it will sound awesome. And the amount of torque you'll lose will be barely noticable over 2-1/2 pipe, especially if you're using a high rise intake, as they are tuned for higher rpm horsepower anyway
I run 3" true duals on my trans am (437 stoker, .500 lift, Ram Air heads) and the sound is amazingly deep at idle and it screams like a top fuel dragster
