[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Apr-02 AT 05:35 PM (EST)]It warmed up over here in Southern California the other day. My 2002, F-250, CC, V-10 seemed very warm sitting in the sun. Well, no fear...I'll just crank my A/C for the first time and let the puppy blow away. Hmm. My old Chevy didn't take this long...my wife's 'import' doesn't take this long. Well, after 15 minutes all I ended up with was a cab just slightly cooler than the 95 outside.
Do I sense a problem here? What's the word on the Super Duty A/C capabilities?
Do I need to stock up on ice before I go to Tucson, Arizona this summer?
Thanks in advance, Mike
It got up to almost 90° here in MA today. I flipped the switch to MAX and in 5-8 minutes I was nice and cool.
I don't know if that helped you at all hearing that. I have heard others claiming that their AC didn't blow as cold as they would like. I'm not sure of the fix besides the obvious checks and services.
Mine isn't as cold as other trucks I have been in. There were some post about this last summer if you go through the threads you may be able to find some related posts. My girlfriend has a 2001 Supercrew and her's get freezing cold almost as soon as she turns it on. I think I remember some people saying that its due to the large cab space and that Ford didn't put a large enough compressor to get all that air in there cool. I tired to ask my dealership about this last summer as well and they said there is really nothing that can be done because there wasn't a problem with it. They said that if you put your hand by the vent, the air is cool. I told them, but by the time it gets to me, it isn't that cool. They also said its due to the large cab space and the summer heat in Las Vegas. He gave me the normal dealer reply "we can't do anything".
>Gee Vaccuum mine is aweseome.

It got up over 80 here today, too. I kicked my AC in the **** and had to turn it down a little within 10 mins. I didn't even use "Max AC" whatever that is.
Down here in Texas it gets pretty hot.I know of nobody complaining about their a/c. Mine always cools down alright and I have a 99.I will tell you that about almost every truck that is a sd have their windows tinted. Maybe thats what helps us out alot.

It recirculates the air inside the cabin for quicker cool downs.
I would check to see if we (Super Duty's and Excursions) share the same compressor. I would imagine they do but am not certain. My cabin area is much larger than a crew cab. Most of the time I don't even use my rear AC. Don't need it...
If the same, I can't see the compressor being the culprit unless it it not working properly.
Geez My 02 duty got nice an cold here in NY.
Today it was warm here!
your dealer should at least chk to see that you don't have a problem
not just tell you the air is cold.
do you have access to a portable temp probe ?
If so put it or the thermacouple right in the air duct and monitor the output airtemp.Based on outside air temp,it should be able to maintain 10-15% less.

on our E450 mini-buses only have one compresser to cool the whole thing. and it is the same as the others. I THINK that they are the same ones in the cars.
Easiest way to see if its cooling good put a thermonator in the vent if its around 35 your doing good. Our mini-buses ussally sit around 40 on hot days.(one compresser for front and rear)But then we have bigger condensers on the under left side away from the raideator.

Mine worked for beans last year. I took it into an A?C shop and they said everything was ok. Still works for beans.
If anyone has any help please let me know.
On my truck there's this lever on the door, about a third of the way down. I just crank that a few turns, hit the accelerator, and enjoy my "A/C."
But really, on my '89 the pump has a habit of losing it's gas, and so I don't bother with it anymore. It could be you're either out of gas or you've got a blockage in the system. Also check the A/C clutch, if it's not working, your A/C of course won't either.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Apr-02 AT 10:29 PM (EST)]I think many Fords aren't as "cool" as they were previous to 1993.R134a isn't as cold as the old R12.The evaporator needs to be larger with the newer freon. My 02 doesn't seem to cool the inside real well.Of course once the built up heat is removed from the interior the AC will be more efficent.
Something must be wrong cuz I've got an ecab and when it was 114 degrees in Austin last summer mine worked great and fast. Of course I had to use the Max A/C and the getup and go sucked but, I was cool while sitting in traffic! Course mines tinted. If yours is not I would highly recommend it.
In other vehicles I have found it advantageous to open the windows and vent the hot air for the first few seconds after goin.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Apr-02 AT 11:16 PM (EST)]I'll take it to the dealer and see what they tell me.
I'm just searching for any problems that are known to occur with Super Duty A/C.
I'm going from Los Angeles to Tucson this summer with five big bodies and one little one. That's pretty "Crew" to me. Hope it can handle that. I'll let you guys know what comes of this.
Summer's coming and you don't want to find out the hard way when you're stuck in the middle of the Mojave Desert, or wherever your hot spot might be near your town.
Thaks for all the input.
Mike
