Column shifter problem
My wife's '96 Windstar has the shifter on the steering column. For awhile now, it's been hard to find the right gear. When shifting from P to R, it usually skips R and goes into N. Then we have to tap it back to find R. The same thing happens when going into D. Going down the highway, we realize that it's revving too high to be in D and must be in 3. So we have to pull it back just a bit to find D. When the tranny is in D, the indicator is on N and there is quite a bit of movement in the shifter.
Is this a linkage problem? What are we looking at to get this fixed? Is it something I can do myself? Cost?
I'm getting ready to deploy again and need to get this fixed for her before I leave.
Thanks
