shifting problem

I am pretty new to these trucks and very new to trannys but my problem is when i am going down the road speed doesn't matter and I step on it real hard the engine sound like it revs up but the truck just don't go I am not sure why but i would really like to fix the problem. the truck is a 79 f150 351m with and auto tranny and 4 wheel drive.

Thanks
Todd

You only have three gears in that tranny, and if you are trying to go above 70 you are pushing the limits of that motor.

How fast are you trying to go, its not designed to be passing people at 85.

You think the problem is in the tranny , or that he motor isnt getting adequate fuel(problem in fuel delivery system, between tank and carb)????

I would just like to know what you mean by "going do the road" that could be around town, as it would be a serious problem, or on the highway, where this is normal.

79,
You could adjust the bands but you've probably already burned the clutch. My guess is... your just low on fluid. It may be too late to remedy the problem now.

You will have to get the tranny repaired.

thanks for the info I will check the fluid tommorrow when hopefully it is alittle warmer the problem is really and anyspeed i can turn a corner and it will go if i just gradually accelerate but if i put it all the way to the floor it sounds like the engine revs but no go. the motor does have a miss in it i really need a tune up but i really don't have any extra cash but i am trying to get buy but i guess that is what i get for an $800 truck.
