The Dyno operator was actually quite impressed. He has seen 400HP cars with manaual trannies, switch to an auto the Dyno 300HP. But, they run as good or faster at the track. So there is no doubt the tranny is gobbling up a lot of the power.
Moving up in cams, I lose a little vacuum and the idle get's rougher. These were main concerns, as wll as not wanting to run a higher RPM stall on the TC.
This would be the easiest step up. It should be directly compatible with all my hardware. Let me know what you cam experts think of it (I think it puts me on the the edge of the carbs capability) :
The second run, something didn't connect like the first run, and it came up with some numbers similar to before.
The first was impressive even as a spectator. His first attempt failed, because it downshifted to 2nd. He slowed her down, brought her back up to about 2500 rpm (just above the usual downshift range for my truck). Then he stomped on the throttle, and the whole truck lunged, even with the heavy duty straps cinched down tight at all 4 corners. It sounded good. He said he could feel it was making good power and he has dyno'd many cars, including race cars. For the second run, we think the glitch is in the fuel system. I plan to run some #6 lines all the way back, and use both outputs of the regulator to feed the Demon's 2 inputs. Even when just running the fuel pump, the pressure was low for a bit then finally the pump got some gas and it came up to 6-7psi.
You do sound much happier which is what it is all about. That other cam seems much lumpier. It has 2 more degrees on the LCA to boot. You would probably need to upgrade the springs yet again. You would not be running a stock stall with it. 2500 would probably be a minimum. If you hook up a huge tranny cooler you could probably still tow but you would need one heck of a gear to keep it out of the "slip range" so it doesn't burn up the trans.
yes please, feel free to add my info to the Dyno page. Make sure it's clearr that it's through a C6 and dana 60...It'll make me feel a little better :-)
I snapped a couple of under the hood shots, showing the relevant configuration. They are on my engine page:
Wow! Those numbers are great! Now I cant wait to get my 390 done.
(Bigger Cam)
I really think you'd be better served by the (Bigger Cam). You've got such a humongus stroke on that thing, that you'd have to try REALLY hard to kill the low end. Remember, the (Bigger Cam) will let things flow better, and when you've got 446ci to feed, it needs all the help it can get. I'd say go for it.
I'm even starting to consider the 349521 for my 390 build. Maybe.
It does feel good to see some progress. I'm a novice engine assembler and tuner, so there has been a lot of learning along the way. Most of which came from this forum.
I'm just glad it finally put down more than my car...Of course it get's 30 MPG...don't reckon' I'll ever get that out of the truck :-)
correction there GTEX, YOU WERE A NOVICE.........lol, while none of us will ever know it all i'd say you've had one hell of an experience and while it never ends for us gear heads, you have seen the light and atleast been rewarded for all that hard work...........not to mention, it taught all the rest of us some stuff too............congratdulations.........
now, do us all a favor and go whoop the living @!&^%! out of a bow tie............just because ya can.....lol
gtex glad to hear you have gotten your truck up and going again. Sure would like to see it sometime. I live in Round Rock. I should have my project 390 going in about a week or so waiting on my pushrods to arrive. Were are you going to get your truck dynoed?? I would like to get mind down to see what kinda horsepower it is making.
Check out the Texas forum for oportunittes to see my project and maybe some others. We are talknig about going to River City Raceway in San Antonio. Maybe next friday night. They have test and tune for about $15.
