When I dropped new 390 in last yr, everything in the tranny went in new. For about $200 I was able to install new clutch kit and new flywheel. Hate redoing things, always feel better using new parts.
I got the word back from the engine builder-machine shop. (and the other guy that helped me build it) They both say, "Drive it, and see if it goes away."
If it's screwed up, then you're not makeing it worse. So, I drove it this weekend, and it seems to have subsided. Still make a little noise in reverse and 2 when starting out, but 3rd and 4th are barely noticable.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll post the results if I have to replace anything.
One note...Just buying new parts is no sure thing. I've got a new clutch assembly in mine that I put in when I installed the rebuilt engine. All new parts. All lifetime warranty. The T/O bearing in mine has been making noise since about 1500 miles. Really bugs the @#$% out of me. Before long I'm gonna have to pull the tranny back and see what the heck..I also have a new pilot bushing. Mine only makes the noise when depressed. It started faintly at first, and has been fairly noise for over a year. Not real bad, but bad enough that it makes me grit my teeth when I push the clutch. One thing, my pivot assembly does look a bit weird, but it's the same as it's always been. It never made any noise with the old bearing , which BTW was still good. I still have it and a still good disc in the garage I keep as a backup. But being my parts are lifetime, I'll make em give me another bearing when I finally get it pulled apart. It's a sick feeling when you have a rinky dink $10 part that requires pulling the tranny to get to.
