I'm having trouble with a '95 Bronco 4x4 with push button transfer case controls. The automatic hubs were replaced with Warn manual hubs. The trouble is when I push the button for either high or low range four wheel drive nothing happens. The fuse in the panel is good, is there a relay or alternate fuse somewhere else?
If you mean "nothing" as in no clicks or anything at all, you may look behind the instrument panel and make sure the switch is plugged in. When I got my truck, I think some bozo had the dash out (which more and more I believe was to roll back the odometer), the switch was unplugged. I think there is only one fuse to the control unit.
If you hear clicks but no engagement, that is most likely electric motor troubles on the case. Lastly you have to be in 4-hi to go into 4-lo...pushing the 4-lo button doesn't do anything unless you are in 4-hi, stopped, and in neutral...only then do you get 4-lo.
I've checked the plug behind the dash panel, no problem there. This Bronco was bought new and has been in four wheel drive maybe 4-5 times total since it was new. I get "nothing" when I push the buttons to engage the t-case, no lights, no clicks, nothing. I hate the thought of having to take it to a shop if it's possibly a simple fix!!!
I--m this post is to help u diagnose this problem read all of it ,Refers to explorers but has the same shift motors our broncos have.Beleive me if u take it to a shop get ready for the $$$ charge. Its good info and pertains to your problemsand u can actually do it your self. Theres a diagnosis check to see if its your controller or shift motor ---copy this well worth its weight n gold if u plan on keeping your ride TRhttp://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/tcase.html
Im in your kick panel passengers side is your controller ,theres a button on it to see if its your controller acting up or shift motor.U have to undo 2 of the three(elect) hook ups(info tells all). The motor on the transfer case isnt hard at all to drop.Ive had mine off 2 times.I even bought a used one from a junk yard and 2 extra controllers (all for 80$), and all work.Parts for our trucks are getting harder to find ,and they say a new shift motor can be between 300-500 bux with the controller from ford 400$$Good luck TR
The controller is behind the passenger kick panel. Since you're not hearing clicks or anything, that's probably where you should start.
I pulled my motor a few days ago and replaced the rotted-out travel stop with a 1/8" piece of 5/16" fuel line. Total time was about 20-30 mins and it fixed my problem. That is a great article, although I thought that it made things sound a lot more complicated than they are. Those motors only have about 5 distinct pieces in them.
Just a quick update, followed the instructions on how to check the tcase motor and actuator, I put it all back together and it works like new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all who offered advice, you guys saved me a lot of $$$$
