Our family car a 97 T Bird has been put into mothballs due too a cracked plastic intake (4.6) that sprayed water all over the left side ignition module messing up who knows what. The kids have to get to Kindergarten so my 94 F-150 stays at home with my wife. My F-1 was there to take up the slack. Guys, you can use this as a sales pitch to your wives. The next time you hear "What good is that old thing" you can say "One day that old thing may be bringing home the bacon". Right after Christmas with money tight that old F-1 has really come through. It has earned it's keep. Honestly my wife has been really good about my truck. She even wants to make me a quilt-style seatcover out of some Ford logo cloth she has found. Hey I guess it give it the ole time country hot rod look and be more comfortable than that chilly cracked vinyl. Travis
That's a bummer. Did it crack where the alternator mounts? My '96 Crown Vic Police Interceptor had its intake replaced by the motor pool before I got it. Unfortunately, they didn't replace it with one with the reinforced alternator mount so I'll probably be doing it again a few years down the road.
Your sales pitch wouldn't work on my wife. I would need a truck that runs to try that approach. Mine won't be bringing home any bacon for a few years. If anything, it's going to be takin' my bacon.
Can't think of a classier way to go to work than in an old Ford truck. Wish I could do that with mine, but like Harrier said, that is a far off dream for me...lol
I posted a while back as to how my '49 F-2 stepped in when my "modern engineered" '96 Dodge decided to reject the thirteen month old in the $500 in the tank fuel pump. I mention the thirteen month because the pump was one lousy month out of warranty. If it weren't for the F-2 it would have made it very difficult to run my business for a couple of days until I had Dodge fixed. I used it to haul supplies and equipment to customers' job sites. The F-2 has helped out a few other times when my other modern marvels decided not to work. After doing all the restoration myself, I have had the truck on the road for more than five years without any major problems. That is more than I can say for my other hi tech vehicles.
The manifold cracked right below the thermostat housing. It sprayed water all over the ignition module and now it backfires and misses when the water is deverted and the module dry.I put in a call two weeks ago to the dealership about the manifold and I was quoted $240 (my cost) for the retro kit including metal manifold, all gaskets and a new alternator mount. They had 4 in stock. Magically that price has risen too $583 dealer cost for the manifold in 2 weeks. "We had to ajust to the new pricelist cause them 97s are old models." It looks like I'll be in the 50 longer than I had planned but it is not a bad place to be. You all have some very nice trucks. Mine is nowhere near finished. Remember, just when things look hopeless and parts are scattered all over the place, keep at it and stuff starts going back together and before you know it you're on the road. Travis
