Does anyone know how to tell when you've got a four bolt 460 from a cast number or other easy visual method?(If they even exist) I have a few blocks now that aren't(although unsure of the cast numbers at the moment). On top of that, where is my best bet for finding one? A guy gave me one that was supposedly a 4 bolt, but turned out to be a 2 bolt. I am using it for a fairlane I am building to race and has a 10-71 kuhl supercharger ready to be strapped on so i feel the 4-bolt is neccessary. Any feedback is appreciated.
Ford Racing makes a 4 bolt 460 block, I saw one the other day at a local performance shop, I am pretty sure it was Ford Racing. I didnt bother to look at the price, I knew it was too much for me.
Or get a two bolt, and put your own caps on it. I would want splayed main caps for any engine I was doing the kind of work you are doing. And despite what some people may tell you, you CAN put the caps on yourself (drill and tap for the outer splayed bolts), you just need a line bore either way. Good luck.
I just put Engine Systems 4 bolt caps on my D0VE block and wasn't hard at all. The caps had to have a step milled in them but the drilling and tapping was easy. A D1VE block would have to be machined to put them on. If your going to run a blower I would at least fill the block to the water pump holes to make it even more solid.
