Quick Bassani question

I have heard you need to use a donut gasket with the bassani y pipe if you are useing stock manifolds. since there isn't a gasket there stock where and what size should I get. I called bassani to ask and at first the guy insisted that they don't make a y pipe for a bronco with a 351, then he said since your stock exhaust is a ball and socket anyway I shouldn't need a gasket, but I don't know if i believe him. Has anyone used the y pipe and stock manifolds? what did you end up doing?

Mine came wit some nifty little things that essentially just made the stock ball larger, if you get my drift. Other than them, no real gaskets were needed.

if your having leaks or trying to avoid them, , you can coat that connection with high temp copper rtv . it seals good . try not to gti it down inside the pipe , it just takes a light coating , good luck, bob

Was the gentleman you talked to from Bassani? I have a 351, and yes it has a Bassani Y pipe...so they do make it. The stock collector on the manifolds is something silly like 2". It will be nowhere close to sealing. Bassani should have the gaskets you are looking for. From what I have read on others who have run the stock manifolds, they have always used a donut gasket.

yes the guy was from bassani. I have the ypipe in my garage I haven't gone through all the stuff, so I will see if they came with the thing that No BS mentioned. Now what I can't understand is how they say it fit the stock manifolds if the sizes are so different and they don't mate. Rich did you y pipe come with an adapter thing? Would you know what size donut gasket to get? I remmeber you saying when you did you exhaust that there was a donut gasket on your old stuff do you remmeber what size it was? I want to get all the stuff I need before I take off anything. I don't know if i want to call Bassani again because I am afraid I will get the same guy.

Oh, forgot to I asked about gaskets from bassani and he said that if your stock exhaust is a ball and socket that you won't need gaskets.

Hmm, I dont think they came with any of those donuts. Even at the tighest point, I dont believe that they will work. There arent donut gaskets in there stock (I belive Greystreak92 said he had gaskets in there when he added his Y pipe). If you get a measurement of the opening of the Y pipe, I can measure the cup on the stock manifolds I have here (351). That way, you should be able to purchase that gasket at a parts store.

yeah, maybe it was greystreak. I'm not sure I understand what won't work, the ypipe? If you could measure the manifold that would be great. I think I will maybe call back Bassani on monday and hope I don't get that guy again, so I can find out exactly what I need to do.

Yeah, I was talking about the Y pipes smallest diameter in the collector, versus the collector on the stock manifolds. Gimme a few minutes and I can go give you the measurement.
