I travel the roads in the great state of New York(LOL). Seriously though, can you guys reccomend a decent looking running board for my '04 SCrew. I have noticed in the past few days that the way the bottom of the front doors curve under, the salt and slush will work its way right into the gap between the door and the rocker panel. Its an ugly sight to see that salty road slush packed in there. I am looking for a "good look" as well as protective. Does anyone have the Ford boards, and how do you like them?
I turned them down when I ordered the truck in November and a little sorry I did. Thanks in advance. This is a great forum!!
This one's a double-edged sword. The boards that will protect the bottom of the doors also collect snow and ice right where you want to step. I've had numerous customers complain that they went flying as they tried to get into their truck. The open step bars eliminate that problem, but do nothing to protect the rocker panels. Whatever you do, DON'T get the ones that are the full-length, one-piece from wheelwell to wheelwell. The noise they make will drive you nuts. Wish I could be of more help.
I recently installed the Ford molded splash guards to keep mud and stones off of the fenders, rockers and step bars. They might help with your problem. Or if you do get the boards they will help keep them clean.-Jack
I have the molded running boards and molded mud flaps on all my trucks. They protect the rockers and side panels much better than the tubular. The road crud collects on the bottom of the boards, not where you step. Don't spend the extra money for the Ford brand. There are better quality aftermarket boards for less money. Easy to install.
