Transmission Fluid Level?

96 3.0 automatic - Anyone know the actual amount of transmission fluid in the automatic transmission? I drained mine and changed the filter. The owners manual says it holds 9 quarts (which I find very hard to believe) but the haynes manual says to add only 4 or 5 pints (2 - 2 1/2 quarts). I did what the haynes manual said. The damned thing now hesitates bfore going into gear. When driving it has very little power now and hesitates and then slams into gear. Any ideas?

I have a 93 4.0L and I replaced the tranny fluid a couple of times. I had somewhat similar problems. You need to add more fluid until all the symptoms disappear. Just add a little and drive it a little. Repeat this a couple of times and you should be back to normal.

Trans Problem Solved

You're right about the fluid level - but that wasnt what was wrong with mine. Like a dummy, I forgot to put o-rings on the damn filter... I was thinking the whole problem through, when it suddenly dawned on me - and sure as heck, the o-rings were still sitting on the workbench. So I went through the whole process again and installed the o-rings. It works fine. Also, I got on line and did a littled research. Contrary to the owners manual and haynes, the A4LD (when dry) holds around 4 quarts. Mine took just a little under that.
