I'm thinking about purchasing an amsoil by pass filter and was wondering if any one out there is using it or another and what they would recommend. Any advise would be most appriciated.
I am using the fs-2500 filtration solutions world wide system and am happy with that. I actually saw the oil clean up in a few driving miles. Only my 2 cents. You could have a discussion on this matter until the cows come home.
i have a gulfcoast filter, model o-1, amsoil filter works fine but theres one draw back, every time you change the filter it costs 40-60 bucks,my filter does the exact samething and costs me two bucks for a papertowel, YOU BE THE JUDGE.
I've been researching these for awhile now. They all seem to be pretty good. I'm ordering the Oilguard system Friday. I like the way it's installed and the $13 replacement elements. The elements were too costly for the Amguard system and the Frantz & Gulf Coast systems looked harder to install.
that is correct, most of the dealers who sell there filters will tell you use bounty big roll or something similar, i personaly use commercial grade papertowels like the ones you find in shops or restrooms, i unwind them untill they will fit snugly into my canister, most are shorter than the standard paper towel so you have to cut about a three inch section on a second roll in order to fill the canister, the frantz filter which is also a good product uses a roll of scotts 1000 ply tissue paper, but getting back to the paper towels, there dealers say a roll of bounty will sufice, my unit came with a roll of regular paper towels from the factory as standard equipment, im currently using the commercial grade paper towels with great sucsess, weve got tons of them at work and there wound alot tighter than standard paper towels therefore provide better filtration, commonsense tells me that 12.50 is kinda steep for a roll of paper towels, but then again commonsense as we all know , isn't so common. gulf coast may have some high speed paper towel for all i know, but it didn't come stock from the factory with my canister, just a plain old roll of paper towels. if you order the 0-1 filter, i recommend the gulfcoast of oklahoma dealer, he includes shipping and all the fittings , note the hoses he send are pro lock and do not require any hose clamps, ive seen this stuff under 1250 pounds of pressure on a machine and not blow, neat product, i got grade 8 nuts and bolts at my machine shop because the bolts sent were sub standard to my standard, and a bottle of locktite, never bolt up any aftermarket stuff without it, diesels vibrate to much not to, the gulf coast bypass is a piece of work, heavy duty would be a understatement, i would recommend it to anyone who has a diesel truck or gas for that matter, my crankcase hold slightly over five gallons since i installed it, ive taken picture and tried to make a gallery but i wont work for some reason, bottomline you cant go wrong with a bypass unit, should be standard equipment on all motors, but the parts world would frown on that because there profits would dwindle down consideralbly, buy one, use it , when you sell your truck, take it off and put it on the new one, and make it part of your " will " because it will outlast you and me put toghether and your son or daughter will be able to make use of it aswell, trust me you'll understand when it arives at your door. good luck elwood
So how ahard is ti to install the by pass from either oilgaurd or gulfcoast? wheres the best place to find Gulfcoast of Ok, of f of the main web site?

Don't know if this is the best but I just finished installing my Oil Guard oil bypass system a few hours ago.
High quality product, great service and true one micron filtration.
I don't plan on extending my oil changes by much, just wanted the best filtration. http://www.oilguard.com/
Going by the instructions on their websites, the Oilguard system is simple. Remove 2 plugs located near your oil filter. Screw 2 fittings in to the holes. Mount the filter assembly to the frame and connect the hoses. The Amsoil one is easy also. Just remove your stock oil filter, screw the adapter plate onto where the stock oil filter was, mount the filter assembly and connect the hoses. The Gulf Coast and Frantz systems, if I'm reading it correctly, require doing some drilling or installing a self tapping thing in your oil pan.
I personally liked the Oil Guard because they filter to 1 micron and use a wound filter, not toilet paper or paper towels. I fabricated a bracket and mounted it on the inside frame rail. I then mounted the Oil Guard bracket to the fabbed bracket for a horizontal installation inside the frame rail. All fittings are hydraulic type and the kit comes with high pressure hose. I called Oil Guard for straight type fittings and they sent them out no charge next day. Very accomodating. I have pics.
I will probably run to 5000 miles and I'll change the oil and send a sample to Blackstone for analysis.
Amsoil has expensive filters, bulky size and their systems I believe are designed to operate with their synthetic oil to prolong oil life, long duration between oil changes, etc. to 100K? +
Couldn't find enough tech information on the Frantz to convince me.

I agree the Frantz website could be more informative.. So why not call Deborah the (owner of Frantz) and speak to her? She will answer all your questions.. She answered all mine! She even helped me with the installation of my filters.. She is quite knowledgeble.. an expert .. Or go to www.bypassfilter.com and get Ralph Woods phone number and talk to him.. And study his website too. His number is listed on his website too. He has been in the bypass filtering buisness since the early 1960's and is a true professor on the subject.. If your serious about bypass filtration like I am call and ask these people your questions!.. I did. I not only studied everything I could read but I picked everyones brain on the subject too.. I'm a living example of toilet paper bypass filtering.. I thought is was all BS until I got educated...
