reverse sensor problem

I just picked up my new 04 F-150 FX4 crew and I love it! However, today I put the truck in reverse and the reverse sensor had a solid tone like I was close to another object, but I wasn't.
I tried it in reverse many times and the reverse sensor continues to have a solid tone. Has anyone else had this problem? I will be taking it in to the dealer in the next few days.

Is the tailgate down when you hear this, because this will set it off. Please dont flame me for this, because sometimes I overlook the obvious. If thats not the case the dealership would be my next stop.

It did this on my Lariat two times. Both times it was cold and wet.The next day It was ok. I have not been to dealer yet but i bet it will be a no problem found repair. Two times in 2000 miles and two months is going to be hard to find.

If the sensors have a little morning dew on them they will do that also.

The sensors have to be kept clean. If there's a build-up of snow, ice, heavy dirt, etc... it will cause just what you're describing. A little road dirt shouldn't affect them, but a lot of it will.

My sensors were clean and when it did it ichecked them and even wipped them off. There are some other post that confirm the same thing. Will most likely have to wait for the bulletin.

Boy am I glad I can still use my mirrors. I hate all those bells and whistles. To think you guys paid extra for that backing scensor. I could never trust it anyway because it could have a problem. I sure would not want to back over a child or a post because I expected the sensor to work and it did not.

Bigsky Not to worry, I have the rear sensors and have had no problem with mine. Also I dont think anyone uses a rear sensor without looking at all where they are backing, I know I sure dont. Once the mirrors are useless and you cant see past the tailgate they sure do come in handy.

There is ALOT you cannot see with just the mirriors. The sensors are to aid with what you cannot see. They are not designed to replace the mirriors. The sensors are really helpful to my wife who has not driven a truck very often. They allow her to judge what we guys are able to judge because of our experience with driving trucks.

Oh no!...there we go again with the wife driving the truck!...lol I'm so glad I don't have to worry about my wife taking over my ride. I've already told her not to be asking to drive it. She's a small woman anyway and she'll be intimidated by a big truck I'm sure. That's good for me!

And I too will order the reverse sensing system. It's only $250 or something like that. I'll gladly pay that much for a 10 year + life of the truck having one more tool to avoid hitting something.

My Lariat SCREW has the same problem, but only when it's rained or after I wash it. It will do it when sensors are clean sometimes, but only if it's frozen or wet. I think it's related to the undercarriage spray from the car wash. Also, when it's below freezing in the morning and i've washed it the day before, problems result.

Another problem I've found as a result of freezing weather is with the door switches. Don't wash your truck before a night that get's below freezing or your door switches will not sense the doors are shut once you open them. That's a pain when it happens to you.
